Glen Cary Lutheran Church 2010 trip to Germany

Overview: Members and friends of Glen Cary Lutheran Church along with three of its pastors will travel to Germany, Austria and Switzerland from September 20 through September 30, 2010. Follow the trip as Pastor JaneAnn maintains a blog about the adventures and sights during their 10 day journey.

Itinerary

Monday. Sep 20 Across the Atlantic
We leave early in the morning for the Minneapolis airport and should be taking off shortly after 11am, stopping at Chicago for 3 hours and then continuing on to Frankfurt, Germany.

Tuesday, Sep 21 Arrive in Frankfurt/Heidelberg
We will arrive after an 8 hour flight at about 7am in Frankfurt. From there we drive to and tour Heidelberg and then stay overnight there in the Rhine Valley.

Wednesday, Sep 22 Rhine Valley/Lucerne
We view the Rhine Falls, then on to Lucerne, which is one of Switzerland’s prettiest cities.

Thursday, Sep 23 Lake Lucerne
We tour Switzerland’s beautiful Bernese Oberland, then on to Interlaken in the Alpine peaks.

Friday, Sep 24 Lucerne/Innsbruck
Innsbruck is the Austrian capital of the Austrian province of Tyrol, set in the heart of the alps. Today we learn and tour Innsbruck.

Saturday, Sep 25 Salzburg
We travel East to Salzburg, where we will explore the city known as Mozart’s birthplace and featured in the movie “The Sound of Music.”

Sunday, Sep 26 Munich
Leaving Salzburg, we continue on to explore Munich, capital of Bavaria.

Monday, Sep 27 Neuschwanstein/Oberammergau
Ascending into the Bavarian alps, today we will view King Ludwig’s fairy tale castle, and then continue on to Oberammergau.

Tuesday, Sep 28 The Passion Play of Oberammergau
Today is the highlight of our trip, viewing the passion play that this city has presented for 370 years in keeping a promise made in 1633.

Wednesday, Sep 29 Oberammergau/Frankfurt
Today we travel north, stopping to tour Rothenberg as we continue to Frankfurt for the night.

Thursday, Sep 30 Frankfurt/home
We leave Europe about 10:30am and arrive in Chicago about 12:30pm, though this is about an 8 hour flight. By evening we arrive back in Minneapolis.
